I was lucky AF recently. I’m a little hesitant to tempt fate by saying so, but I had a day a couple of weeks ago where everything just went right. One of those things was that I scored an exclusive ticket to a photo walk with Jeff Chang of @theapartmentphoto during my trip to Florence for a @wayupnorth convention. Is it crazy to go half way across the world to learn from a Vancouver photographer? Definitely not. I’m home, after a 26 hour travel day. So let’s make a reel.

Hey, it’s me Jen. When I read these introduction

Hey, it’s me Jen. When I read these introduction posts, they mostly start with something like “it’s been a long time since I did this”. But I’ve NEVER done this, and now I’m going to. I’m Jen. Big thanks to my husband @layton_mcleod for taking my photo today, and even bigger thanks to him for climbing to the top of a big hill with me, in the heat, then walking to the bottom where we expected to find the entrance to this beautiful garden, then walking back UP under the sweltering Tuscan sun where the entrance actually was. Worth it? Worth it.
I’m Jen. Main interests include literature, travel, language learning, photography, true crime podcasts. I now own 8 pairs of Dr Martens boots, but it feels appropriate that I was wearing my Cons for this photo. I bought these shoes in Glasgow last fall, after literally walking through the soles of my last pair of runners while hiking the Old Man of Storr on Skye. Much of my inspiration to become a photographer came from the supermodel culture in the early to mid 90s. I’ve been a photographer since before I was A Photographer. I started out primarily as a family photographer (but the first shoot I was ever paid for was a wedding) and now I am a destination and luxury elopement photographer. My cameras are FULL of sand. I shoot in the rain often, but I no longer mess around with shooting without a rain cover.
I’ve learned from and been lucky enough to shoot with many incredible photographers. I’ve been published a time or two. I’ve changed and been changed. Sometimes I come full circle.

Up, up and away. Have you ever hiked the Cox Bay Lookout? It's a bit of a scramble, sure. You do need decent footwear. If it's rained recently, the bottom half of the trail is a series of mud bogs, and the top half involves scaling rocks. When it hasn't rained recently, the bottom half is slightly less muddy. And the top half involves scaling rocks.
100% worth it.
