When a particular couple tasked me with locating the ideal trail for their elopement, I found myself almost overwhelmed with options. There are endless beautiful trails from here to Tofino. How to choose? The ceremony will be performed by Barbara Dunsmore and I’m intrigued; it’ll be a 3-part walking ceremony through the rainforest, and ending on the beach. The idea is so beautiful.
I’m scoping a few spots, which serves me, too. I’ve been to all these places, sometimes with an eye out for photo locations but never from this particular angle. I thought I’d start with the Nuu-chah-nulth trail from the Florencia Bay parking lot to South Beach, and did earlier in the week. It’s a beautiful trail.
But it is muddy. I had to abandon it because I was getting dirty even in my Blundstones – forget wedding shoes.
Today, I had another hiatus from parenting (I love playschool mornings) so I decided to try out South Beach Trail from Wickaninnish Beach. I’ve actually done photo shoots here recently, and South Beach is a place I have sat for hours, contemplating the sea, so I had some idea that it would be a winner.
The trail is the right length. The scenery is breathtaking. On a Thursday morning in May, it was nearly empty as well.
Next week I’ll be heading to Schooner’s Cove for the same purpose so check back.
And if you’re thinking about eloping to Tofino or Ucluelet – let’s chat.
