It’s a beautiful morning in Ukee. It’s a crisp 4 degrees Celcius and the pink sky over the mountains in the distance is hinting at the sun’s imminent rise. My kids both slept in, but have stirred.
We fell in love with Piña clothing and Angie Roussin’s art on our wedding trip to Tofino in 2012. I basically stumbled into the Tofino location, which was at that time in what is now the Chocolate Tofino expansion. It was a “why hasn’t this been in my life before” moment. We moved to Ucluelet in 2017, but visited almost every year between our wedding and our move (Cliff’s notes story of me & the west coast: I grew up visiting Tofino every year until I was about 17, and didn’t visit again until Layton and I got married at Cox Bay) and every visit, whether we were staying in Tuff or Ukee, began with a Piña visit, at the Ucluelet store. I’ve loved seeing the evolution of the clothing year over year. I loved wearing something that reminded me of my favourite place on earth.
I’ve missed so many good sunsets recently. Last night, I was doing laundry and glanced out my bedroom window to blue skies and tracks of clouds. Loaded the kids in the car and made it to Big Beach before they had any idea what was even going on.
We missed the actual sunset by a couple of minutes. My kids have pretty well resigned themselves to the fact that there’s going to be a photo shoot before they can play anywhere.
The storms sure rearranged the driftwood. There were days when huge logs were thrown around like toothpicks and it wasn’t safe to be anywhere near the beach.
I bought Seville this sweater today. She bought Hobbes his for Christmas.
I’m always struck by the difference between high tide and low tide. When the tide is at it’s highest, you can barely discern the black rocks that the beyond resort takes it’s name from below the water. No surfing at Ukee’s rocky beaches.
I am still a bit apprehensive about letting Hobbes play on the rocks. He nearly took me down last week, but he’s fairly nimble on his own.
I also bought him a new toque yesterday…
She’s getting SO big.
This is the moment I released them to go play. Then followed them.
I hope you’re about to have a wonderful weekend. If you’re heading to Ucluelet or Tofino soon, book a photo shoot through that form below. K?
